Industrial metal rockers Static-X rose to fame with the release of their debut album Wisconsin Death Trip in 1999. Their unique sound, combining heavy industrial overtones with metal and thrash, quickly captured attention within the growing nu metal movement that took place throughout the late 1990s, and their breakthrough debut eventually earned a platinum certification in the US. Over the next decade, Static-X would release five more albums including Machine (2001), Shadow Zone (2003), Start a War (2005), Cannibal (2007), and Cult of Static (2009). The band entered a hiatus shortly after their last album’s release, briefly reuniting in 2012 before officially disbanding in 2013. In November 2014, band founder and frontman Wayne Static died at the age of 48. His death prompted three-fourths of the original Static-X lineup to reform in his honor, releasing Project Regeneration (their first studio album in 10 years) in early 2019.
